The presence of a literary work becomes valuable when it receives various forms of acceptance and responses from readers, which can be examined through several aspects, one of which is the readers’ emotional aspect. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the classification of readers’ emotional responses to Maulid Simth al-Durar using the approaches of Literary Reception and Literary Psychology. The researcher employed a descriptive qualitative analysis method by relying on data in the form of readers’ responses to this qasidah, focusing solely on the emotional aspect, with data collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and text analysis. The results of the study indicate, first, that readers give diverse emotional responses. This research contributes to understanding how readers respond to literary works and how literary works, in turn, influence readers.</p> Miftahul Jannah Copyright (c) 2025 Al-Uslub: Journal of Arabic Linguistic and Literature 2025-12-31 2025-12-31 9 02 158 179 10.30631/al-uslub.v9i02.232 Contrastive of Kinship Terms in Japanese and Arabic: Sociolinguistic Perspective http://aluslub.fah.uinjambi.ac.id/index.php/uslub/article/view/252 <p><sup>This study examined the differences in kinship terminology between Japanese and Arabic from a sociolinguistic perspective. The analysis revealed that Japanese kinship terms are influenced by the内・外 “uchi–soto” (in–out) concept. For example, Japanese distinguishes between oji (叔父), one’s own uncle, and ojisan (おじさん), another person’s uncle. Conversely, Arabic kinship terminology reflects lineage-based differentiation, emphasizing نصب ”nasab” (genealogy) and the strength of blood relations. This can be seen in the clear distinction between عم (ʿamm), meaning paternal uncle, and جال (khāl), meaning maternal uncle. The findings contribute to the understanding of how sociolinguistic structures shape kinship terminology across different linguistic systems. This research expands the contrastive study of Japanese and Arabic by linking linguistic forms to social orientation, group harmony in Japanese and genealogical hierarchy in Arabic. It also highlights the intersection of language, culture, and social behavior as a fundamental area in sociolinguistic inquiry. Future studies could explore kinship terminology in other languages with distinct social frameworks to deepen the cross-cultural contrastive analysis.</sup></p> Abdur Rahman Hafiz Copyright (c) 2025 Al-Uslub: Journal of Arabic Linguistic and Literature 2025-12-31 2025-12-31 9 02 180 194 10.30631/al-uslub.v9i02.252 Arabic Linguistic Landscape in Australia: A Multilingual Study of Commercial Signage on Haldon Street, Lakemba http://aluslub.fah.uinjambi.ac.id/index.php/uslub/article/view/249 <p>This study explores the presence and function of Arabic language within the linguistic landscape of Haldon Street, Lakemba, a multicultural suburb in Sydney, Australia. Using Backhaus’s (2007) framework, the research analyzes twenty commercial and institutional signs to examine the distribution of Arabic alongside English and other languages. The findings demonstrate that Arabic appears in both standard and transliterated forms, functioning in diverse bottom-up contexts such as shops, restaurants, and service agencies. The study reveals varying degrees of language dominance, from bilingual balance to the predominance of English or Arabic, reflecting identity negotiation among migrant communities. Beyond its communicative role, Arabic in the public space serves as a marker of Islamic cultural identity, fostering both community cohesion and visibility in a multilingual society. This research contributes to broader discussions on language identity, multilingual practices, and the role of Arabic as both a heritage and diasporic language in contemporary global contexts.</p> Muhammad Yaskur Copyright (c) 2025 Al-Uslub: Journal of Arabic Linguistic and Literature 2025-12-31 2025-12-31 9 02 195 217 10.30631/al-uslub.v9i02.249 Patterns and Factors of Arabic Writing Errors: A Descriptive Study in Learning through the Imlā’ Mandzūr Method http://aluslub.fah.uinjambi.ac.id/index.php/uslub/article/view/238 <p>This study aims to describe in depth the patterns of errors in Arabic writing and the factors causing these errors in the use of the imla’ mandzur method in class VIII 2 at Al-Falah Islamic Junior High School in Jambi. This study is decriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The reserch subjects consisted of Arabic language teachers and eighth grade students. Data analysis was carried out throught the stages of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that there were five patterns of writing errors mare by students, namely errors in connecting letters, errors in writing <em>hamzah qath’I</em>, errors in reducing letters, errors in writing similar-sounding <em>Hijaiyyah</em> letters, and errors in wriring <em>harakat</em>. The factors causing these errrors include diverse educational backgrounds, lack of practice in writing Arabic, and concentration factors, namely lack of focus during learning. The implications of this study indicate that the application of the <em>imla’ mandzur</em> method needs to be accompanied by intensive practice and guidance so that students are able to write letters or spellings in Arabic according to the correct writing rules, as well as providing input for teachers to improve the effectiveness of Arabic writing intruction in schools. This research also contributes to improving students’ accuracy and motivation in Arabic writing.</p> Era Aprianti Neldi Harianto Ady Muh.
